About me

I have always lived on the border between two worlds that often turn their backs on each other: numbers and letters, management and culture.

It goes right down to my degrees: I hold a degree in Economics and, a few years later, another in Catalan Philology. This double perspective has shaped a career of more than thirty years. I started out in accounting and auditing, spent more than seven years as a senior consultant at PwC and IBM, and from there I moved into the world of knowledge and education.

I have led and created very different organisations: an e-learning consultancy, an international architecture institute, a school, and several of my own projects in educational innovation and edtech (Future Explorers, LIMYF Educa, Tools2Think, BAMS (Barcelona Advanced Management School)). I have also launched a new project connected to the world of cooking: CuinApp. Today I am managing director of the Institut d'Estudis Financers / Barcelona Finance School and vice-president of EBTN, the European association for training in the financial sector. In parallel, I have taught at the UOC for more than fifteen years, and I have written three books.

From all of this I have drawn one conviction, and it is what gives this project its meaning. Philosophy and the great currents of thought, but also history, art and myth — from Socrates to Kant, from Homer to Montaigne, from Kahneman to the great stories we have been telling ourselves for millennia — are not an ornament for our spare time: they are the most practical tools we have to decide well, learn for real and lead with judgement. And we will not make the most of artificial intelligence or new technologies unless we first reclaim the mental infrastructure — reason, attention, reading, writing, imagination — that lets us use them with judgement and humanity.

Sapere Aude («dare to know») is my way of putting this idea to work in companies, in classrooms and in everyday life.
